Transforming Jamaica’s Future through AI, EI, and Education

April marks Organizational Development Month, and this year, the Caribbean Centre for Organization Development Excellence (Cari-Code) hosted its 2025 Transformation Conference, spotlighting the future of work in Jamaica. ADVANTUM, a sponsor for the event, joined the conversation, gaining insights into how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the workplace and building the future.

A central theme emerged from the event: Jamaica’s future success lies in the powerful combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Emotional Intelligence (EI), and education.

Artificial intelligence is the capacity of machines to mimic human cognitive functions such as learning, problem-solving, and pattern recognition, enabling them to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. While emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage your emotions, as well as recognize and influence the emotions of those around.

EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION to drive the workforce

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles Jr., emphasized that while AI can enhance speed and efficiency, EI is essential for leadership, empathy, and human connection—especially within public service.

“There is a need for us to combine EI and AI to unlock new dimensions of growth, equity and opportunity in Jamaica. Various sectors, including BPO (Business Process Outsourcing), education, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and tourism, are already embracing AI innovation,” said Charles.

The Jamaican government is also another entity already leveraging the use of AI to provide better and more efficient service to the general public. AI has been adopted and is being used in modernizing systems such as work permit processing, reducing turnaround times from months to mere hours. Technology is critical to process data faster and help in development, which is why the focus of the government for the future is to equip citizens with the ability to use AI tools and develop their emotional intelligence.

Minister Charles outlined several initiatives aimed at building a future-ready workforce. These include integrating AI literacy and EI training into school curricula, launching programs like the Prompt Engineering Course to prepare Jamaicans for emerging roles, finalizing a national workforce readiness strategy, investing in ICT infrastructure, and supporting AI-focused startups. Additionally, the promotion of EI in leadership, team building, and customer service is seen as key to cultivating a more compassionate and effective society.

The seminar offered a glimpse into how fusing emotional and artificial intelligence can drive organizational growth and workplace transformation.

This vision goes beyond just adopting new technologies—it’s about using education and innovation to empower Jamaicans and build a stronger nation.

“Jamaica is not just participating in the global digital shift; we are helping to lead it. Let us ensure our policies are inclusive, our innovations are ethical and our people empowered,” he said.
